Saturday, December 02, 2006: West Digital Ltd has introduced two biometric ATMs. With these two ATMs, customers would not have to take the pain of remembering their PIN numbers. All they have to do is give their thumb-print. The ATM will scan their thumb-print and, once it is recognised, the ATM will proceed with the transaction

With the service, presently launched for the bank's 'Pragati' savings account holders, the bank seeks to cater to the demands of the under-banked, lower income segment.

The ATMs have colour-coded buttons -- yellow for deposit and green for withdrawl -- which guide customers through the transactions. However, these biometric ATMs do not stop customers from using the PIN ATMs.

Finger Vein Technology
We also provides solutions based on finger vein technology where authentication is done by finger vein pattern measured from light penetrating a finger. The technology was established in 2000, and since then modifications have seen the production of a user-friendly "Open-Type" and a flexible "Indoor/Outdoor-Type," which can use natural sunlight as a light source.
Recent development of a grip-type finger vein authentication technology, which upon gripping a door handle, instantly recognizes the finger vein pattern and confirms the identity of the person trying to enter. An authorized person only has to grip a door handle to open a locked door to enter a room, home or vehicle. This system provides an unprecedented new level of convenience, as authentication is achieved as part of the natural action of opening a door, providing high-level security without requiring any additional maneuvers, or the need to carry keys.
